If you ever need a great quick and easy dessert to feed a crowd – this is it! It never fails and is guaranteed to please every time. Chocolate chip cookie bars are just a simpler, thicker and chewier version of a chocolate chip cookie. It’s simpler in the fact that you don’t have to drop the batter for individual cookies onto a baking sheet. You just bake the whole thing in one pan and cut into squares afterward. Why this recipe is so great:

  • It’s all in the ingredients – I used melted butter in this recipe to make the cookie bars chewier. I used all brown sugar for a softer texture, giving it a golden-brown color and deep caramel flavor. The eggs give it rise and richness. The vanilla is for flavor. The flour is for substance and structure. The baking soda prevents the final product from being too dense, and the salt just enhances all the flavors.
  • Packed with chocolate chips – This is the allure of these cookies bars. There are loads of chocolate in every bite.
  • Quick and easy to make – The reviews below say it all. This recipe is so easy, you can whip up a batch in minutes and clean up is a breeze.
  • Here is what some of my readers have to say:

“I made these bars tonight, and Oh my gosh!!! The best chocolate chip bars ever! Even better…so easy and fast to make, my family loved them.” – Rebecca

“Made the bar cookies yesterday. My clan wiped out 3/4 of the pan in one sitting! Not only do they taste great but they are so easy to make. Will definitely be keeping this recipe handy.” – Sylvia

“This was soooooooooo easy to make meaning it was so easy to clean the kitchen afterwards. Absolutely delicious, no need to spend hours making a fancy cake that wouldn’t taste half as yummy as this. AND THE TEXTURE!!! Wowwwwww! Easy to bite ( no crumbs from dryness and not falling apart from wetness) and the taste of heaven in your mouth. Chewy dreamy! Lady, you are a baking goddess!’ – Arevik

Thank you for this excellent recipe. I’ve tried two other bar cookies and they were dry and thick—too much flour I think (another reviewer mentioned that as well). These cookies were perfect and chewy and delicious. I will be making these from now on. Thank you!!!

Thank you for publishing an accurate chocolate chip cookie bar recipe! I think all the other recipes put too much flour, they turn out so hard and dry.
Tho I did make one alteration to your recipe… I remember my mom making these bars, and she only used a cup of sugar. So I took a gamble and put one cup of brown sugar. I think they turned out great! I cooked them for 18 minutes in my convection oven and they sliced like a dream. A few hours later they are cool, and still soft! Good job 👍🏻

Hi Lily, these sound delicious. Can I halve the recipe and bake in a 9×5″ loaf pan? How long do you think that would take, thanks?

    • Easy Chocolate Chip Cookie Bars Recipe - Little Sweet Baker (20)

      Lily ErnstReply

Hi Nephe, yes you can half the recipe and bake it in a loaf pan. The cookie bars will be a bit thicker in a loaf pan and because of that it will still take about 15-20 mins to bake. Enjoy!

This has become one of my favorite recipes. I make this several times a month. I have to admit that I don’t use parchment paper. I replaced the parchment paper with a light skim of cooking spray (Pam). I also have replaced the chocolate chips with peanut butter chips and have mixed 1 cup of chocolate chips and 1 cup of peanut butter chips. Thank you for sharing this recipe with us.

I have made this recipe several times now and this is my first comment on a recipe online. They are THAT good! My husband absolutely loves these. They are delicious and the perfect snack for when you want a sweet treat. Easy recipe turns out great every time. Sometimes I substitute 1 Cup of the Chocolate chips for 1/2 cup raisins and 1/2 chopped walnuts while still adding the other 1 cup of chocolate chips!

Thank you! It depends on the size of the sheet. For a 13×18″ sheet pan, yes you double the recipe.
